Norton Motorcycle History

Norton began life in 1898 as a parts supplier. However they quickly established themselves as a motorcycle manufacturer and played a part in supplying bikes for the war effort such as the Norton 16H and Big Four Side Valve. As a major player, Norton then started to establish themselves on the racing scene, winning the Isle of Man TT Senior 500cc races in each year from 1947-1954 with the likes of Geoff Duke and Ray Amm starring on the Manx Norton 30M & the 350cc Man Norton 40M also having some success.

Circa 1950 the Featherbed frame Norton was introduced and used in the Norton Dominator 88 (Dommie). These Featherbed models were very popular to convert to Manx replicas, Cafe Racers and perhaps most significantly Tritons. The featherbeds are often seen with Manx style alloy petrol tanks and seats, with clip-ons and rear sets etc.
